Biarlah Bulan Bicara Sendiri

Looking through my window on the night of 31st August 2007 I saw this bright moon. So I grabbed my DSLR camera attached with my 50-500mm lens and snapped a few shot of it. Then I remember the song sang by the late Broery 'Biarlah Bulan Bicara sendiri'. Here is the lyric:

Bulan sabit
Yang jatuh dipelataran
Bintang redup
Tanpa cahaya gemintang
Langkah tanpa arah
Sesat di jalan yang terang
Aku yang terlena dibuai pelukan dosa

Chorus:
Ingin pulang membalut luka hatimu
Ku pun tahu betapa pedih batinmu
Beri kesempatan atau jatuhkan hukuman
Andai maaf pun tak kau berikan

Air mata tulus jatuh di sudut bibir mu

Tak terlintas dendam di bening mata indah mu
Aku yang merasa sangat berdosa pada mu
Masih pantaskah mendampingi mu

Biar lah bulan bicara sendiri
Biarlah bintang kan menjadi saksi
Tak kan ku ulangi walau sampai akhir nanti
Cukup derita sampai di sini

New Supplies

Frankly I never use this product. This is my first attempt to try a new ClarinsMen. I am lucky because I don't have any skin problem such as blemishes, and I don't have any problem switching from one product to another.

My first skincare product was Simple. Then I switched to Clinique for Men. I used it for 3 years and I am happy with it. I started with Clinique for Men when I was in UK and keep continue using it until I decided to switch to more economical product which is St.Ives (but I am still using Clinique Happy for Men perfume). I love the apricot scrub. It really invigorate my skin and I still use it until now as my weekly scrub.(this is really a good product and cheap too)

Early this year I added Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Refiner into my skincare product. It really good. Today I bought ClarinsMen Active Face Wash and Undereye Serum. I started to develop puffiness and dark circle around my eyes because of stress and lack of sleep. I tried Body Shop White Eye Serum before but it doesn't work.

I have another option to try if this product doesn't work, the Loreal For Men. Friend told me that I bought this product not because of I really want to use it but rather interested with the offer that comes with it. "Buy 2 Clarins products and get this watch for free". Hmmm.... slap on my face three times... shiiihhhh... ya la... so stupid of me. Do I need all this? Actually not. My St. Ives is more than enough.

An Apple A Day

Benjamin Franklin say an apple a day will keeps the doctor away. Sixteen different biologic polyphenols were found in apples and especially in their skins. Polyphenols have a variety of different functions in the human body, including acting as antioxidants. These newly detected polyphenols may be responsible for some of the health-promoting effects of apples recognized by Franklin more than 200 years ago. But, the apples in Franklin’s day weren’t treated with toxic or persistent pesticides. Today, apples are on the list of the most contaminated fruits and vegetables published by the Environment Working Group, based on analysis of over 100,000 government reports. But an organic apple a day (the way they used to be grown) is still a great way to keep the doctor away – according to both old wisdom and 21st century science. Here is my favourite apple recepies.

Apple and Wilted Lettuce Salad

With its hot beef bacon dressing, this salad won't wait for late-comers to the table; be sure to dress it just before serving

6 cups torn romaine lettuce
4 cups torn green or red leaf lettuce
2 Red or Golden Delicious apples, cored and sliced
1/2 cup sliced celery
6 slices beef bacon
1/3 cup cider vinegar (normal vinegar will do)
1/4 cup water
1 package (.6-ounce) Italian salad dressing mix
2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 cup sliced green onion
Ground black pepper

Method:

In large serving bowl, combine romaine, leaf lettuce, apples, and celery; set aside.
In skillet, fry beef bacon until crisp; reserve drippings. Drain and crumble beef bacon into salad. In same skillet, combine reserved beef bacon drippings, the vinegar, water, salad dressing mix, and sugar; heat to boiling. Pour over salad. Top with green onion and black pepper; toss salad gently. Serve immediately.

Window Shopping

What better past time activity besides of study... window shopping it is. Being a student window shopping is part of our activity here.... buying things is not an option. After all the deduction of house rent, utilities, food and transportation we are barely left with few hundred dollars.

Usually what I do is I will save for a couple of month to buy something that I eyed on. But one thing that is good here is some shop provide a Lay Buy scheme. Pick your goods and tell them that you want to go for Lay Bay option, pay the initial minimum deposit and they will keep your goods till the end of the payment (interest free). The maximum term is 3-6 month. If full payment have not receive at the end of the term you will loose all your deposit and the goods.

I am not sure if there is something that similar back home. I think it is good to the consumer especially when the price of good is rocketing recently. Then they can stretch their monthly budget and at the same time they still be able to buy thing that they want.

Basically you can Lay Buy almost everything from clothings, watch and jewellery, furniture etc. Places that I like to go for a window shopping are DFO (Direct Factory Outlet), Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Mayer, David Jones and Melbourne Central

Blue Monday

Why Monday is always the worst day to start the week? Today is not the day that I am looking forward because usually I have a meeting with my supervisor. Monday is the day to prepare with mental torture. Usually Monday is the day I have to crunch my brain to figure out what exactly research is all about, what is my supervisor want and what is exactly I am doing.

Monday is the day my brain become dead and my energy drained. Monday also the day I will know the next pressure that I will going to get for the week. After a submission of my first proposal, the feedback is I need to write more! The worst about it is that your supervisor only tell you that he need more without telling you what more! Then I end up of doing and writing what I think is what he want.

Monday also the day when I will know the dateline. My next dateline is this Thursday. What should I submit? Research argument, research question, method and lots of other issues.

So today is a Blue Monday for me. The day that I don't want to talk to the others. The day that I will sit down and try to focus on what I am doing.

Suamiku Isteri Orang

A Minute, An Hour And A Lifetime

This is probably the best shot ever taken. It reflect the quote that comes with it. "It takes a minute to like someone, and hour to love someone, but to forget someone takes a life time." I believe some of us have been through a rough time in relationship and most of the time it is difficult to forget all the memories whether the good and the bad. For someone to say I am leaving you is much easier than for the one who we left.

Shopping Can Be Fun!

Do a bit of groceries today. I don't have any specific day to go for a groceries. It depends on my mood. Usually I do it on the weekday. Weekend is too busy. Some more Coles is 24 hours a day, means that I can go anytime I want. Sometimes I go in the middle of the night. More pleasant since not many shoppers around. The whole floor is mine and I can take my own time to browse.

In a month I usually spend between AUD150-200 for groceries. Thats a lot actually, but can't avoid that. Groceries is very expensive here. Look at this...10 items already cost me over AUD40. Then, shopping can be fun only if we have a buying power.

Things That Is Always With Me

Usually I will carry my laptop, DSLR camera, PDA and mobile whenever I go. Not really practical somehow. But there is enough reason to bring this things along. Laptop is for my study, DSLR is for my hobby, PDA for my local number and research backup and mobile is for my roaming number. Mom usually call this number instead of my local number.

I wish one day there will be an invention which can merged all this into one gadget. What should we call it?

If I am too lazy, I will only carry two things, my laptop and my point and shoot camera minus mobile and PDA. Sometimes having a chance not to carry a phone give me a bit of peace. Mobile phone can be very irritating sometimes.

One thing for sure, I need a new laptop. I saw a nice Sony Vaio with 11.1 inch screen the other day, but unfortunately I haven't got enough penny for that at the moment. Need to wait a bit longer. Furthermore it is very expensive here, and to get one from Malaysia is the best option. It is far more cheaper. Ahaks.. probably I can ask my sister to buy me one since she owe me some money which is enough to buy the laptop. With the price I get.. she still owe me few thousand! ha ahaa haaa

Besides of Photography

After missing for a while, I found it again. All this while it was hiding under the bed. This is one of my favourite... Among of all, the purple topaz (far left) is the one that come with memories. Friend from Phnom Penh gave it to me as a...... (secret). It is also the most expensive among all.

I started to collect watches and rings few years back. I used to collect shoes. Now I don't. I have nearly hundred pairs of shoes and the buying has to stop. Some of it still in the box.

But watch is something that I cannot resist. I am not choosy when it come to the brand. As long as it's suits me then I will buy it. This are some of my collections. There are some more in the closet. Some of it with a dead battery. Haa haa haa... It is become difficult to maintain actually.

All in all, I think I have about 50 watches
from various brand such as Kenneth Cole, Citizen, Seiko, Casio, Timex, Swatch, Tissot, Tag Heuer, Next, Pulsar, Esprit, Bonia and recently I am eyeing on one of this beautifully crafted watch from Boss. That is probably in my next wish list besides of a new 18-180mm Zuiko Digital lens for my Olympus DSLR E-510. Speaking about my DSLR camera, I haven't play with it for almost 2 weeks.

I think I need some photography activity this weekend. Hopefully the weather will be fine. Climb up to Eureka Tower would be nice. Shoot some aerial view of Melbourne. Done that from Realto Building before.

Got my new toy. Another activity for this weekend. Talking about the star... I remember one of my friend use to tell me.. 'In our lifetime, how many time we look to the skies and ask ourself how big the universe is'. For myself I can count with my fingers.

So instead of looking down and always busy with my life, I should spend some time looking up and do star gazing. See how big the universe and the Almighty creations is. Looking at who I am right now, I am just a small objects that the Almighty created.

Another Video From Malaysian Who Don't Have A Sense Of Nationalism

This is not a second video he compose. But this is from a few series. Probably we should sit down for a while and think about this issue. Is this happen because of our lack of understanding the meaning of 'Kenegaraan'?

I cannot imagine what divastation it is going to be when the Malaysian itself do not have the sense of 'nationalism' and 'patriotism'. Personally this is the time the government should consider the issues that involve 'nationalism', 'patriotism', Bahasa Melayu and the issue of Bangsa Malaysia. Seems that there are more Malaysian who don't know about the above issue.

If we ask the question 'How many Malaysian can speak Bahasa Melayu fluently? I believe not many... Do they realise that Bahasa Melayu is Bahasa Kebangsaan which supposed to be mastered by all Malaysian and stated in the constitution? Do they understand the 'Kontrak Social'? How many of us understand about the 'Kontrak Social'? What is 'Kontrak Social'? I urge the government to force all Malaysian to attend the Biro Tata Negara and let all Malaysian understand all those sensitive issues that we already negotiated among the races and agreed to respect that decision. As our former Prime Minister said.. the 'Kontrak Social' cannot be negotiated and let it be and it need to be respected.

The Australian Malaysian Film Festival

I heard about this movie from friends and they said it was good. There is going to be a screening of this movie at ACMI (Australia Centre of Moving Images) at Federation Square. Unfortunately I haven't got a chance to see.

I might ask my friend to send me the DVD if its available. In recent years there are more film director and script writer who are capable of making a good Malay film. I am not a good fan of Malay movie before but now I started to put more attention in it. I believe there is a time when Malay film will be as successful as P.Ramlee film again.

Tomorrow there is another screening. Friends asking me to join them to see Chermin. I haven't got any clue about this film.

At Least There Is A Good News

The busy and bad day at least end with a good news. Checked my email just now and to my surprise my 2006 work performance paid off. This is my second time I receive the 'Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang'. The first was in 2004.

And probably I have to wait another 4 years to receive another one since I am stuck here in Melbourne. Today APC is totally different from what it used to be. Few years back before the SSM, besides of a certificate and a bit of dollar and cents you will also get a salary increament in ascale of 'menegak' or 'melintang'. Plus some of organization will add another goodies.

After the SSM, APC is more sort of formality. What do you get is a certificate, a bit of dollar and cents, a priorites such as priority of candidate for state awards and a priority to go for any career development training. What is missing is no salary increamanet since the salary increamanet is based on your Penilaian Tahap Kecekapan which demand a 4 band to be qualified.

What A Mess!

The whole day without going out from my nest! And look at the mess that I made. I manage to write about a thousand words today and hopefully I can write another fifteen hundred by tomorrow afternoon before I surrender myself to the weekend. At this point, it doesn't matter whether my writing is perfect or not, as long as my supervisor understand my research intention.

After having a bad relationship with my previous supervisor, I tend to be more careful this time. All conversation and any mode of communication is recorded. I push my new supervisor to guide me through. My expectation is more this time. Least supervision is not what I expect from my new supervisor.

My previous supervisor always told me that I should be more independent since I am a doctorate student.. but I don't buy that, As long as I am a student, it doesn't matter what level I am... and I believe that is his or her job to supervise me. Otherwise the Malaysian government paying the university for nothing. Luckily my Dean of Research is a British.... more understanding and helpful. I can always see him if I have a problem. They are just a different people.... even though historically they are from the same root.

Dok main hambat ja sampai lupa nak tutup mulut. Nasib baik tak bawak lalat dalam keta tadi. Klu tak penuh lalat kerumun ayaq liur tuh.

Nih yang seksa jadi pemandu depa la dan juga co-driver. Sepanjang jalan tak leh tidoq. Maklumlah kalu co-driver tidoq jugak tak sampai la ke destinasi. Silap-silap main dok pusing keliling bukit aja lah. Tapi kan depa nih bila kita kata dah sampai aja... habih terbeliak biji mata.. terang benderang gamatnya. Mulalah depa ni tak lepas peluang dok posing sana posing sini. Gaya Charlie's Angle lagi tuh. Ya lah kan bila lagi depa nih nak posing.. Nak kata majalah wanita pun belum tentu depa dapat masuk. Tapi apa-apa pun janji kita happy kan kawan-kawan. Mana ada peluang no nak jalan-jalan macam nih.

Breakfast Under The Sun

Woke up quite early today. Went for a walk. Today I managed to walk for 2 kilometers, that was from my apartment to Toorak (South Yarra). Hopefully the weather is going to be better for week to come. Spring is surely around the corner. The day is getting longer.

Hopefully Spring will motivate me to study hard. Winter is just as bad as I expected. The day is short, make me lazy.

To celebrate the sign of Spring, I decided to have my breakfast under the sun at Chapelino. I had a Cappuccino and Scone served with strawberry jam and whipped cream. This was not something that I usually have for my breakfast. Mostly I prepare myself some scramble egg on toast and a glass of milk or juice.

Back home I prefer something that is more asian in flavour such as Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng, Soto, Lontong, Nasi Dagang or even Roti Canai.

If your brain works normally this is neat. If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain only one color, pink.

However if you stare at the black mark "+" in the centre, the moving dot turns to green.

Now concentrate on the black "+" in the centre of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a single green dot rotating.

It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.

Birthday is something that is meaningful to certain people and it is more meaningful when that day is remembered by friends. I decided to spent few hundred dollars for a present. Tonight they are three person celebrating their birthday. Wawa, Zafira and Iza. It is difficult to buy a present for a lady. Not sure what exactly they want. Perfumes? Naah.. they are very particular about perfumeries. Clothing? I don't think so. Bags? Could be. Accessories? Not good at it.

So I end up buying a three different designers mug for them. Three of them loved coffee. So I bought them a nice designer mug from Gorgio Armani, Jaime Oliver the Naked Chef.

It is Saturday!

Oh dear... the house is in the mess. Cleaning time! Even though it is Saturday, I still have to wake up early. Do my laundry. I do it once a week. The dirty cloths is already piling up in my laundry basket. Not because of I am lazy but to save a money. Laundry alone will cost me AUD3 per wash and the dryer is AUD1 per half an hour. Usually the cost of my laundry is between AUD5 to AUD7.

Other cost such as the electricity, phone bills, internet, food and transportation will add up around AUD1000+ a month. The house alone cost me AUD900 per calendar month.

I am sure I am going to be busy again this couples of week so I better do the house cleaning today. Need to rearrange the furniture, vacuum the carpet, polish the tiles, clean the bathroom and toilets, and the most needed cleaning is little kitchen. I love cooking but I am lazy to do the washing.

Seems that it is going to be a full day job today. Tonight I will join the rest to Alamaro Italian Restaurant for birthday party. I manage to get her a present yesterday. A nice Gorgio Armanai Mug!

My Lunch

Supposed to start with my new research topic today, but I am just lazy and some more I am so hungry. Catch a tram and headed to the city centre. Met a friend and we had our lunch at Esteler 77. It is an Indonesian Restaurant.
I do indulge myself there sometimes. Today my menu selection was 'Mee Ayam' and a bottle of juice. There is only two Halal restaurant around Swanston St and it close to each other. The other one is Nelayan Restaurant and belongs to an Indonesian too. Since Changi Reataurant closed down there was not much choice. I am not into Indian food. I can have once in a blue moon. The other restaurant are Norsiah Kitchen and Lazat Restaurant. Norsiah Kitchen owned by a Singaporean and Lazat too.

Zam Zam and Bismi are the Indian restaurant.
There used to be another restaurant called Jom Makan and it belongs to Fuad (Malaysian guy
-pembantu warden Malaysia Hall). Never dine there. Another all time favourite is a Thai restaurant called Sawasdee. I usually cook myself and it is cheaper. Sometimes I do pampered myself to my favourite fast food restaurant, Nando's. Most of Nando's in Melbourne is halal. There is halal McDonalds and KFC too. My favourite meals at Nando's is a quarter chicken (breast side) meals with peri chips. Tapi orang kata Nando's sini tak leh challange Nando's Malaysia.

Women Prefer Feminine Guys For Long-term?

LONDON (AFP) - Women see masculine-looking men as more unsuitable long-term partners but men with more feminine features are seen as more committed and less likely to stray, researchers said Wednesday. Scientists at the Universities of Durham and St Andrews came to the conclusion by asking more than 400 British men and women to make judgments on character after looking at digitally-altered pictures of men's faces.

The web-based test asked participants to rate the face for traits such as dominance, ambition, wealth, faithfulness, commitment, parenting skills, and warmth. Men with square jaws, larger noses and smaller eyes were classed as significantly more dominant, less faithful, worse parents and as having less warm personalities.

Those with finer facial features, fuller lips, wide eyes and thinner, more curved eyebrows on the other hand were viewed as a better bet for long-term relationships. And healthier-looking faces, for example those with better complexions, were seen as more desirable in terms of all personality traits compared to those who looked unhealthy. Older faces were also generally viewed more positively compared to younger ones. The scientists said there was a "high amount of agreement" between women about what they see in terms of personality when seeing a man's face and they may well use their impression to decide whether or not to engage with him.

"That decision-making process all depends on what a woman is looking for in a relationship at that time of her life," said Lynda Boothroyd, from Durham Universitys Department of Psychology. Her colleague, David Perrett from St Andrews, said: "Our results contradict claims that machismo denotes fitness and disease immunity. Masculinity may buy you dominance but not necessarily tip top physical condition. "Instead women see a healthy guy as the source of wealth, and fit for family life." The research is published in the latest edition of the journal "Personality and Individual Differences".

Friend from Makassar sent me some photos today. Haven't heard form him for a few days. I hope I have a chance to visit him in Makassar one day. Never been there. This is him enjoying his short break near Lampung Beach at Pulau Puhawang while having some meals. People said Makassar is among the best place for scuba diving with it crystal clear water and beautiful corals.

The next two photos are called Joglo. Joglo is a traditional house of Javanese ethnic in Indonesia. So excited himself he took this photo when at the beach. He said that the boat driver told him that the Joglo is belong to a French and was ferried from the Java Island. Indonesia each ethnic does have their own traditional house just like in Malaysia. The Javanese with Joglo, the Toraja with Tongkonan and etc.

My personal favorite is Balinese style house.
I like the way how they split the section of the house such as rumah ibu, anjung, bilik and dapur and I like the Balinese garden too.
